These
Horses is a collaborative project begun by Emma Bennett, Lucy Cran and
Bill Leslie in 2005.
This
collaboration is based on a wish to make work which is immediate and
affecting, which has a roughness and an unpredictable excitability,
exploiting our shared knowledge and experience. The work is always a
coming together of ideas, disparate voices, materials and approaches.
Performance
has offered a context in which we have elaborated a process of exploration
into cultural practice as diverse as popular dance, music and film,
language structures and word play, enactment, self expression and collective
action.
By founding
our work on a shifting and mutable collaborative relationship These
Horses has moved across fields of performance, art, dance, theatre and
writing, finding in these various contexts new impetus to explore our
ideas and our relationship to a changing audience.
Conceived
of and realised collectively our work resists over-determination, is
open and mutable. Meaning is generated from relationships, tensions
and confluences which demand attention from its viewers and works against
simple and stable interpretation
